Cyrus Dallin's  Appeal to the Great Spirit Reexamined 

Heather Leavell, the Dallin Museum's director and curator, will be participating in this important discussion on the implications of Dallin's Appeal to the Great Spirit as a public commemoration of Native American history and experience.

This event will take place in the MFA's Remis Auditorium. Admission is free, but tickets are required.

Program description from the MFA's website:

Installed at the MFA’s entrance in 1912, Dallin’s monumental equestrian sculpture is one of the Museum’s most visible—and understudied—works of art. Does Appeal to the Great Spirit portray a dignified Native American figure, as the artist intended, or does it simply uphold the 19th-cHeather Leavell, the Dallin Museum's director and curator, will be participating in this important discussion on the implications of Dallin's Appeal to the Great Spirit as a public commemoration of Native American history and experience.
