Arlington 250: Samuel Whittemore Day

Did you know that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has an official State Hero? And that he’s from our town? The public is invited to a special ceremony on Sunday, February 2 commemorating State Hero Samuel Whittemore, the oldest known combatant in the entire Revolutionary War. The event will take place in the park that bears his name at the intersection of Mass Ave. and Mystic Street. The event will include a proclamation, wreath laying, and remarks at his monument in Whittemore Park followed by a reception and interpretive poster session in the Dallin Museum and Cutter Gallery.
