Description
Join us on Tuesday, October 20 for a behind the scenes talk about the artist’s sculptural process. Nick Batzell, of Skylight Studios in Woburn, Mass. will lead the audience through the technical steps of creating a sculpture during the period of Dallin’s career. He’ll discuss clay modeling, molding, and bronze casting as well as the production techniques for plaster works of art as used in the past and the present. There will be a demonstration of the modeling and casting of plaster as well as a guided tour through the gallery to directly observe Cyrus’ plaster-work.
Nick Batzell grew up Arlington and became interested in sculpture as a child looking at the work of Cyrus E. Dallin. Dallin’s work inspired him to study sculpture at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York and eventually lead him to become an Apprentice Sculptor to Robert Shure of Skylight Studios in Woburn, Massachusetts. He now resides in the Cambridge.
