Description
The 17th annual Mystic River Herring Run and Paddle consists of a 5K road race (beginning at 9AM), and 3-, 9- or 12- mile paddle races (beginning at 11AM). The event, a fundraiser for the Mystic River Watershed Association, serves to raise awareness of the returning herring to the river, promote stewardship of the watershed, and provide access to open space and recreation for residents. The Mystic River Herring Run and Paddle combines music, food, recreation and educational displays by community groups who are working to protect the river. It is a day to highlight the beauty and recreational value of the Mystic River as well as the environmental challenges it faces.
