Description
Within our unique selves, how do we face our limitations … and discover new strengths? When we deal with people’s reactions to neurodiversity, how do we handle painful ignorance (including our own) … or welcome kindness? Let’s learn from each others’ stories.
Come to just watch, or to share your thoughts, feelings and experiences around neurodivergence. Laugh, cry, and gain insights as True Story Theater’s actors and musicians empathetically embody whatever is shared.
True Story Theater is a nonprofit theater company with a mission to promote social healing through theatre by building empathy, respect, and understanding in the honoring of true life stories. The actors perform and teach a style of improvisational theater called Playback Theatre. Volunteers from the audience are invited and helped to share what’s important in their lives. Actors listen deeply then spontaneously transform the stories into theater, portraying the heart of what they heard using dialogue, movement, music and song. From this simple interaction, people laugh, cry and experience surprising insights. These events create a respectful atmosphere where every voice can be heard and any story told — however ordinary or extraordinary, difficult or joyful. True Story Theater offers audiences fresh perspectives, deeper connections, and a renewed appreciation for our common humanity.
Join the Friends of the Robbins Library for this interactive performance by True Story Theater on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 7 pm in the Community Room of the Robbins Library, lower level. Admission is free, no advance registration is needed and all are welcome! Wheelchair accessible.
