Arlington High School Transition Program seeking job placements for students

Outline of Program

The Community Work Program currently has three students who are 19 and 20 years old. They have completed all the academic requirements of high school, but need support in transitioning to employment. They are hard workers who act professionally in community settings. The Job Coach accompanies the students to all work shifts and provides training, modeling, and supervision to help the students succeed at the assigned tasks. This means that our work partners don’t have to manage our students directly.

Employers let the Job Coach know what tasks the students should complete, and may demonstrate the first time. Then the Job Coach teaches the students to perform the tasks. The Job Coach breaks the tasks down into simple steps, and works alongside the students to ensure high-quality work. The Job Coach is always present to help with communication, expectations, and anything else that comes up.

Our students excel at repetitive tasks. Some of the types of work our students enjoy and are experienced at include:

  • Mailings

    • stuffing and sealing envelopes, putting postage on mail using either a mail machine or sticking stamps by hand

  • Food Prep/Kitchen Work

    • Basic baking

    • Sandwich preparation

    • Cleaning refrigerators

    • Cleaning sinks

  • Other Light Cleaning

    • Wiping down cafe tables and counters

    • Taking out trash

    • Breaking down cardboard recycling

    • Washing windows

We have three students currently available, but if an employer has enough work for one or two students, that would be great too. We are also open to one-time assignments, as well as short shifts of one to two hours.

We are happy to provide references from our current work partners: Brightview Assisted Living, the Mill Cafe, and Arlington High School cafeteria.
